Before surgery, you will have a comprehensive cataract consultation. You will have a detailed eye assessment, measurements, and a discussion about lens options, risks, and expected recovery.

At Access Eye Centre we aim to make cataract surgery accessible and affordable. Our cataract consults are bulk billed for eligible pension concession card and healthcare card holders. For other Medicare eligible patients there is a single $250 out of pocket fee.

After surgery, you will have follow-up visits to make sure the eye is healing well and your vision is improving as expected. The timing and number of these are tailored to your individual needs.

Some patients still need glasses after cataract surgery, depending on the lens chosen and their individual vision needs.

If you have health insurance that covers item number 42702 you will pay:

1. Your hospital excess (set by your insurer)
2. Anaesthetic gap: approximately $250-$400
3. No surgeon's gap – Sometimes referred as NO GAP CATARACT SURGERY.

If you do not have health insurance the cost of the surgery is around:

1. Total cost before rebate: $3,345-$3,640 (depending on lens chosen)
2. Medicare rebate: approximately $752
3. Estimated out-of-pocket: $2,593-$2,888

You can call your health fund or login online to check if your health insurance covers the item number 42702. Otherwise, we can perform a health fund check on the day of your consultation.
