Yes, please obtain a referral from your optometrist, your optometrist will typically send us the referral in advance.
Please bring your referral (sometimes this has already been sent in by your GP or optometrist), Medicare card, private health insurance details, health care card or pension concession card if relevant, a current list of your medications, and any previous eye reports or scans you have.
Patients are first seen by our optometrist, who performs the full examination and all testing. The ophthalmologist then reviews the results and will see you if needed. For example, if you need laser or surgical treatment.
Most new patient appointments take longer than a standard eye test because we may need to do several tests. Please allow up to 2 hours for a full assessment.
Your first visit may include vision testing, pressure checks, eye pressure-related testing, optic nerve assessment, visual field testing, and imaging if needed. We then decide the best next step for your care.
Bulk billing means we bill Medicare directly for eligible items, so there is no out-of-pocket cost for those services. Eligibility depends on the type of appointment and your circumstances.
Eligible Pension Concession Card and Health Care Card holders receive bulk billed optometry consultations, all diagnostic testing, ophthalmologist consultations (both in-person and via telehealth), and laser treatments. Cataract surgery is not bulk billed but is available through a low-cost pathway with transparent, fixed pricing.
